Lo Speziale at Savoy Theatre, the 15th of November, 2016

LO SPEZIALE

This opera buffa of Joseph Haydn produced by Camerata Amoroso ry was rather interesting an experience. The set was made by carton boxes of different colours, most of the times the costumes were just white coats, but the music was clear Haydn. The length of the opera with one intermission was a bit over one and a half hours, but for an opera buffa that was enough. Four people were able to mess their lives thoroughly even in that time.

Chamber orchestra Camerata Amoroso was unknown to me, so it was exciting to hear this small group play opera. In the beginning the sound felt really fragile, since I am more used to big orchestras. But after a while the music started to sound really charming and in the end I had to confess that I could have listened more of the music even without singing.

Out of the singers the tenor Kalle Virtanen, who sang the role of Sempronio, had occasionally an interesting clang in his voice: a bit nasal, but ringing. It would be nice to hear him also in other roles.
