The Covid pandemic restricted the performances of many orchestras to streamed concerts and occasional small concerts, when the restrictions were looser. At that time baroque orchestra Baccano decided that once the situation gets better, they want to bring music closer to people. Therefore, they asked for some funding from the parishes of Espoo and with the help of that they organized now two Bach concerts during one day in two churches in Espoo. I went to see the concert in the Laaksolahti chapel, but undoubtedly the idea of being near people crystalized in this concert, since the chapel is situated in the middle of a residential area in Espoo.
This free of
charge (voluntary payment for programme leaflet) concert, that lasted for only
an hour, introduced a charmingly versatile set of music by Johann Sebastian
Bach. I was really excited after the concert, because it is absolutely
wonderful that high quality music like this is offered for free and with easy
access.
As a friend
of vocal music I naturally liked the pieces, where soprano Tuuli Lindeberg sang
as soloist: “Hast du denn, Jesu, dein Angesicht gänzlich verborgen” from Schübler
choral “Kommst du nun, Jesu”; the aria “Wieget euch” from cantata “Entfliehet,
verschwindet, entweichet, ihr Sorgen”; Schübler choral “Wachet auf, ruft uns
die Stimme”; aria “Die Seele ruht” from cantata “Herr Jesu Christ”; choral from
cantata “Komm, du süsse Todesstunde” and the aria “Ich esse mit Freuden” from
cantata “Ich bin vergnügt mit meinem Glücke”. Lindeberg has a
stunnigly wide range and even though I usually enjoy especially her high notes,
this time I fell for the low notes. Beautiful!
It was also
extremely interesting to hear the prelude to the cello suite BWV 1009 arranged
to a lute (played by Eero Palviainen). Lute is not a very common instrument, so
it was nice to hear a solo piece played by it.
